No idea what the result of posting this will be. Surely there are like minded people about?

With my RRC undergoing surgery it obviously can't get me anywhere!

So I've had this for a while now but this is Members Vehicles and there's a other non Land-Rover topic on this board so I don't want it to get lonely. I'm sure you've guessed by now that its of the non green oval variety.

This folks, is my 1981 Yamaha DT125MX. All the way from Lichtenstein! Its done less than 15,000 miles and is rather tidy.

I hope posting it isn't in bad taste. After all its an Enduro and it goes off road very well something that Land-Rovers are good at. Being a classic bike it also has its moments, just like Land-Rovers. Infact... I get as much hassle from it as a Land-Rover! :D

Its obviously slightly more dirty now than in the pictures - that was when I first got it.

So - anyone had anything similar way back when?

Love threads like this to see what like minded enthusiasts are into.
Here are my two babies, the trusty D2 and a 1963 Morris Mini Minor Superdeluxe, 850cc of raw power!

Looks lovely clean bike
Thanks! It wasn't clean for very long. In fact I need to give it a once over with the pressure washer. Went out with a friend in his *gasp* Jeep Wrangler (Nice 4.0L straight six though!!! :D) and hasn't been washed since.

Although... its all fun and games until you have to do this:

On the way back from town last week something went horribly wrong! :( Got into town fine everything was fine. Did my business and then started up and going home it started vibrating... and it got worse... and worse... the damage was already done so I pushed on trying to avoid 5k rpm as it seemed to the be the resonant frequency and felt like it was going to fall apart.

Pulled in about 3/4 way home sure I wasn't gong to make it and only safe, easily available place - local secondary school car park at the end of the day. Lots of people entering, leaving and getting some awfully funny looks as this bike is vibrating like crazy and sounds very unhealthy - it honestly felt like it was going to blow the bottom end out at any moment!!! Argh!

Eventually got it back, and started the strip down. Yep, left hand main bearing is utterly FUBAR. few mm of moment in almost all directions and the inner race has welded itself to the crankshaft.

What caused this though? It appears that where the bike was sitting for 5 years before it came into my hands the left hand crank oil seal perished. In the time I've had it, its gotten worse from the heat of the engine. I guess the main bearing had enough of the lack of oil and particles of crank seal being chucked into it.

So... anyone else want some more pictures as I rebuild the bottom end?

Got the crank back today... If you hold the left hand main bearing in you hand and shake it then it sounds like a babys rattle! No wonder the bike was vibrating!

Parts ordered for the rebuild. Gotta get cleaning everything before that arrives and before it can go back together. My favourite. :(

Fantastic picture! Must be quite strange switching between a Discovery and a Mini!!! :D:D:D

Left hand main bearing decided it wanted to not part with the shaft. Had to take it to friendly engineering place to remove it.

I'm now waiting on a replacement right hand main bearing. The parts supplier I used supplied a very noisy bearing (BRAND NEW!) and it didn't have the groove for the retaining clip. So my local bearing supplier are on it for me... In the mean time I've been cleaning the clutch case, both engine side casings, barrel... etc. Need to get some high temp paint and give everything the once over. Can't rebuild an engine and not paint things! ;)

Eeee lad, I had one of them new, the only new bike or car I've ever owned.

£525 I think it was, the 175 which I really wanted I couldn't afford.
I got the 250 version a couple of years later.

My son had the serro version a few years back, we only had it a week and the ignition module thingy packed up and we couldn't get one with it being a jap import so we ended up getting a family friend to make a different engine to fit with a better ignition system so the bike went from a 250cc 2 stroke to a 400cc 4 stroke ok not as liverly as the 2 stroke but it worked ok :)
