hi, i have a defender 110 1994 and the rear lights are playing up.... i will try to explain.
the passenger side rear light will come on with the lights but the drivers side rear light does not. when i brake the passenger side light goes out with no brake light but the drivers side brake light comes on really bright.

i have been told it is a dodge earth....but

i have linked a wire from each earth to the body and this still has not helped, i also fed a wire from the battery to test the lights and found that they would work. i also have dissconnected all the trailer plug wires.......

its confussing but has anyone got any ideas before i rip the things to pieces???

cheers

A dodgy earth still. You need to unscrew all of them, clean then all up and do them up again. Each lamp has a screw in it to earth. Make sure what the screw goes into is actually good metal and not corroded aluminium.

as above, if its not a doggy earth then it might be that the wires in the loom have rubbed through and might be touching so when the feed comes down one wire it then feeds the others and sends power to the other lights. i know this as it haqppend to mine at the rear of the chassis wee it comes out and up to the rear lights.

also check that you bulbs are not corroded in teh holders or burnt out.

Hope this is of some help to you.

mine has a earth wire and i have cut into it and earthed it to the body work.....but today i found that the main earth to the gear box to be slightly corroded and that got one side working but the othe other is still not. so i think you are right again!!!! do you know where these black earth wires go to so i can clean em up??
