I was driving the Disco into work this morning when all of a sudden it started running on 3 and lost power. I decided to drive it home and get one of my guys to collect it on the truck later. We got it back and after a little bit of searching I found no.4 cylinders valve caps both missing (I found them next to the valve springs). When I went to refit them we noticed the shaft has bent and the 8th rocker has hit the rocker box cover (the screw part on the adjuster).

Im racking my brain to figure out what has happened here, heres what the story is so far, A few weeks back I cooked it at sailsbury due to a stuck stat. I have since rebuilt it, skimmed it, measured and got the correct gasket e.t.c. and reset the tappet clearences (0.2mm). I had it running for a while and done a few miles in it, it all seemed OK, I even used it last night with no issues, not until this morning anyway.

I have removed the head and there is no head/valve contact. One of the camshaft runners (the cylinder in the guide piece) shows the impact of the push rod although the rod is still straight and as I said the shaft has bent over no.4 cylinder.

I really cant see a reason why this would of happened, the only thing I can think off is the valve cap has moved and the lip of the cap has got caught between rocker and valve effectively making it twice as deep as the valve cap should be and maybe forcing it all to bend, other than this I have no idea so I was wondering if anyone else has come across anything similar??
