Morning

Just tried to get the 90 re-insured after the roll, now that its got a
brand new shiny MOT.

Heard something on the Radio about a 40% discount for under 25's if you
dont use the vehicle between 11pm and 6am. (£25 charge if you do - They
fit a tracker to it).

Started to tell them the story about the write off etc which they were
fine with. Took all my details - no problems.

Then they asked about the vehicle - Its a defender 90 i replied. "Sorry
sir, we don't insure them". Why i asked. "They are classed as a Military
Vehicle" I asked why again and was told that they don't insure them as
they do not have the safety features as a 'normal' car. I replied "Its
got an engine and 4 wheels though" and was promptly told that they don't
insure them, and that's the bottom line.

They would however have no problem insuring my 1987 3.5V8 Range Rover.

I dont understand this at all... They are defiantly morethan a bunch of
****ers!

What to do now :(

well dont try Tesco thats for sure!

for me with the Disco (94 3.9 v8) with 15K miles and business use, Tesco are
a clear 180 quid more than everyone else, and thats even bumping the
voluntary up to 250.

So far i'm quite impressed at admiral multi-car, as that brings it down to
480 for the disco, and 250 for SWMBO Mondeo (combined)

So I'd best not mention the £80 I pay for my Series IIa with a £80 excess.

feckin' idiots.

apart from chasing them for credible reasons why they refuse to insure a 90,
I'd suggets you try elsewhere...

NFU seem to be good for land rovers... and, as their advertising says, you
don't have to be a farmer.

Yes, but what their advertising doesn't say is that although you don't need
to be a farmer they have a fairly extensive list of occupations that they
won't insure. Of course, you don't discover that your occupation is on this
"black list" until you declare your occupation and they then tell you they
won't insure you.

Try Norwich Union Direct, I recently got a quote for a Defender from them
because they do my car and they were not only happy to cover it and share my
car's NCD but were actually competitive with a mate's insurance on his
Defender through one of those specialist companies. Oh and how's this for
strange, they said the van version is a group 8 and the CSW group 32 or
something like that!. Of course I was asking about an unmodified Defender...

I was with NFU for ages (LR90) and only stopped when I took it off the road.
I recently tried to get a quote from them for the Disco and S2a, but they
were not interested. Reading between the lines, they would only consider
insuring a vehicle as part of a much bigger deal (like a big farm, was my
impression). Perhaps I should try a different office?

NFU were fine for us, let me include a Bull bar (what can I say I was
young!), covered me for trips between workplaces while at work.

There was some suggestion of actually joining the NFU to get insurance for
me TEF20 but so far it's only come out of the chicken shed 5 or so times
since we've had it.

Strange. My 1986 90 is insured with MoreThan. The
vehicle details on the policy are :-

Landrover 90 SWB Diesel.

This is the second year with them. Fully
comprehensive with a £200 excess I'm paying £123.

Since NFU's are basically franchises, I'd try a different "branch" -
Cheadle (Staffs) have no problem with individual motors.

I tried the local NFU branch last year, after assurances that they would
very much like to quote for all my insurance needs they wasted about an hour
of my time filling in their forms. I've yet to receive a single quote, not
even a courtesy call to say they aren't interested, a bunch of pillocks, and
that's being polite!.

A very unusual find I came across at Blanchards!, unfortunately outside my
budget really but I thought I would enquire about insurance so I had a
better picture.

I've never had a problem like that with them, I've insured my landy
and my audi with them, and when I first got the pinzgauer I insured it
with them on a month-by-month basis until I sorted out insurance from
a specialist in that type of vehicle. They've never given me any hint
of trouble. That was the Alton office.

You can get more from membership than insurance if you are a Countryside
member, but it's worth checking what the cost is and having it in the
back of your mind when comparing rates. Remember that they do more than
motor insurance, and as a mutual society you may well get a discount in
subsequent years.

(OK, I use them, and the local branch (Brigg) is good.)
