I’ve fitted an mg zr steering wheel to my freelander as it’s a lot nicer to use than the standard disintegrating plastic one. All fitted fine, no airbag light on etc, cancels indicators but the horn doesn’t work.
Someone said on the freelander Facebook page something about the wires need swapping round but I’m useless with electrics so could anyone tell me which ones please?

Regards

The steering wheel and positioning in a car are quite important to driver safety in a crash. Changing it away from what LR fit as standard means you may not be as safe in a crash. Also you will need to advise yer insurance of the modification.

Bet you’re fun at parties lol
When the subject gets onto Freelanders there's no stopping me...

If you get pulled over by the police there's a giveaway yer modified yer Freelander. Have a look at yer own pic and see if you can spot it. If yer have a crash the insurance examiner will be asked to look for mods. On both occasions it's easy to spot a mod. If not declared then your insurance may invalidate yer insurance. I chose to warn you of this because I was worried for your Freelander being taken off you, not your safety. It would be wrong not to mention this on an open forum where others can read and copy ideas. Especially as they may want to crush your Freelander. That's the bit I was concerned about.

Now to answer yer question... the horn switch is just a push to make contact switch. What yer need to do is work out where the same switch is wired too on the mod steering wheel and compare this to the old one. I would never use face tw*t for vehicle advise but what they refer to when talking about pins is probably the need to move the wires across on a muli plug wired connector or similar.

In my opinion yer would be betterer to buy a second hand Freelander 1 steering wheel and fit yer own "known to you" air bag which is designed to work on a Freelander 1.
