I have had an ongoing oil pressure light issue on my 200tdi, I have changed the sender and so I thought I would drop the sump off to check the oil take up. Once off I found some small shards of metal in the bottom and then this larger piece (See attached pics) the photos are of the same piece just flipped over.
Any thoughts on what it is?

TIA

It looks very much like bits of valve stem cap(s) - does it sound a little noisy up top?

Best way to tell is take the rocker cover off and look at the top of the valve stems. Remember it may not be missing now, it could have been a historical fault.

If you buy new ones I would go to Turner Engineering for them as most of them are too soft including the genuine LR parts. If you get one and can make a mark on it with a hacksaw don't even bother fitting it or it will be broken and out in a matter of months.
