Hi folks, i have searched the toolbar and search box but really struggling to find a thread on the subject.

I have a new D1 i need to lift 2 inch, just going for a simple terrafirma kit, it has a lightweight roof rack, and a winch (standard bumper)

i do use it for towing but still want a comfy ride, from experience can anyone recommend a reason NOT to get medium duty springs?

I've been in a D1 on HD springs and it was rock hard, could feel every bump.

Beware of false impressions on springs, different shockers will make a massive difference, I've just fitted yellow Bilsteins on the rear of my D1 200tdi and now I'm thinking of staying with the standard springs as its tightened up the ride & handling - original shox were in ok condition / not leaking but very soft & wallowy ride making me nearly seasick! (I have the fronts to change as soon as I have time & was thinking of buying hd standard highly springs to match. I use the disco as a tow & fun road car not an off-road weapon)

Rich.

I'm 100% sure you don't "need" to lift it.

I do as I bought 245/75's thinking they'd be fine and they're catching. So it needs a lift.

Lift fitted and it's such a better disco for it. Handles better and so much better to drive. Standard suspension looked to of never been renewed to me and was obviously more tired than I thought.

Good job I keep new bolts as the rear spring clamp bolts were shot

AFAIK when the wheels catch, you need to do the camel cut at the back and trim the side-bumper bits at the front, even with a lift. Even though you don't need a lift, it does make the car look nice. Did you do anything else to the disco, such as extend the brake lines? I'm looking to do the same, but my suspension was renewed recently by a previous owner and am considering 2" suspension spacers.

I didn't do any work to the brake lines, i've left the arb's on so it won't flex too much plus i only do a light bit of laning.

I have lifted mine with 1" HD Bearmach springs and then fitted 1" spaces. Find it perfect for on and off road driving. I have also left the ARB on, but have fitted 2" spaces to it, as it kept coming apart, and one time it was very near the brake line!

Have also extended the brake lines, as better be safe than sorry!

Hi AJC, I have just fitted the Terrafirma +2" medium duty kit and it's perfect, my original suspension was shot.....this has transformed the ride, very smooth almost as standard but with so much less body roll, the car feels solid but good.

I also fitted the 30mm wheel spacers too, all quality kit from Terrafirma.
