Lowering Defender 90 td5 help!!

Hi hope you are well.
I currently have a defender 90 On 2inch lift with gaz shocks.
I want to lower the truck to stock height if not slightly lower then stock.
Is it a case of just getting standard springs and keeping the gaz shocks? Or do I need new shocks too?
Someone suggested professionally cutting the springs to lower the truck but has anyone done this and is it safe?
I’d be using the truck on road only.

Was your lift achieved using blocks or taller springs?
Once you know that, you are halfway lowering it.
.......whatever you do, do not cut your springs down.

Just fit standard springs, you can use the existing shock absorbers.
As above, don't cut the springs.

Thanks mate , similarly can lowering springs be used with the shocks ?

I think yes/maybe/possibly, but i'm not 100% sure, I guess it depends on the quality of the shock.
The shock would have had more travel as the wheels still articulate but needed the longer throw/expansion as they were taller to start with, I imagine that the compression would be similar, if not the same as having, standard springs.

Lowering by 2" or more may need smaller body shocks - lowering to standard or perhaps 1" I think i'd probably use those you have but any more and i'd fit a matching spring/shock pair to be sure...

One thing to look out for is the bump stops. If they're standard size then in theory the shock size should have been selected to allow the springs to fully compress and the axle hit the bump stop before the shock reaches the end of its travel. So there shouldn't be any problem. On the other hand if extended bump stops have been fitted, this may indicate that the shocks don't compress as far, so it's worth checking that they'll go short enough before bolting everything together finally.
