Im guessing its an auto, am i correct in thinking this? Can you give us some more details please like, what millage is on the clock? When was it last serviced? How much do you carry (is it just you or is it full)? Is their enough pressure in the tyres?
Things like this could be causing your low millage problem.

Im only getting 22mpg on my 54 freelander TD4. Any ideas why it may be so poor:mad::(

A clear airflow is vital for any Diesel engine. Therefore is the air filter O.K? Are any of the air supply pipes collapsing? Beyond that, take the pipe off the EGR valve if it's full of gunge then the inlet manifold will also be severely restricted also. In this case do a forum search for EGR bypass etc. D..

For comparison, I've just done 485 miles on one tank (05/TD4/HSE), mostly with the aircon on, fuel guage showed the tank about an eighth full but I topped up anyway.

57 litres to refill at 108p per litre (Shell V Power Diesel) :censored:

This Link tells me I got 38.68mpg and it cost me 12.5p per mile.

2006 TD4 auto, averaged 28-30 mpg over 50k miles.
Logged fuel useage for buisness use.

Before it was chipped managed 26-28 mpg.

Dealer serviced, aircon on all the time, accelerate hard, brake hard, mixed motorway and town driving. Was happy to get 400miles on a tankfull.

Then again my son managed to get her down to 18mpg, but I wouldn't let him drive my car again

Hi
I must admit when my fuel usage has improved dramatically since replacing the air filter, cleaning the maf sensor, cleaning inlet manifold and EGR (see sticky thread). I believe that all this must have been restricting the air flow. I was getting about 21 mpg but since doing all this it has gone up to about 27-29. I filled up on Friday with 57 litres and did 180 miles (went to lakes and most of it was forth or fifth gear) and still have about quarters of a tank left. I did use BP ultimate though which apparently gives you more miles and also have been using injector cleaner for the last couple of months. It must have made a difference.
Apparently one of the side effects of a faulty MAF sensor is over fuelling which I believe mine is doing. it might be worth checking that.
