Lost drive now wont start

Posting this for a mate

He has a 4.6HSE Auto P38 and on the way to work this morning it lost drive, cut out and now wont restart. i know thats a bit vague but anyone any ideas?

He only bought it last week so isnt too happy lol.

Run out of petrol, fuel pump failed, alternator failed and the battery has gone flat.

None of that would cause it to lose drive first though would it?

EDIT: Actually you may have won a jelly bean RAC just turned up and said its the pump
