I just bought a very low mileage Disco II as my retirement pet/project. Sound bodily and mechanically but needs TLC on inside. It came with one key issue which is due to an intermittent fault on the central locking, the previous Owner locked himself out and had to break the driver side rear passenger door window. All other doors are able to be opened but this one, and I can't figure out how to release it to not only replace the window, but to resolve the problem with the locking side of it. Any guidance on how to release the lock and open the door would be appreciated. Also, it came with only one key and one fob, which lock the other doors remotely but does not fit the manual locks, suggesting ignition lock changed in the past. Is it possible to get back to standard without costing an arm and leg.

I also had a similar problem when i bought a Disco 1. the idiot who changed the ignition lock barrel never held on to the old key so, yes, when the battery on the vehicle went dead I had to burgle my way into it! Bet that is why previous owner broke the window. (Impatient tool, there are other ways!) so, yes you need to modify the driver's door lock at least in order to be able to unlock the door to get into it if your vehicle's batt dies on you.
As for fixing the broken -window door, can't hlep I'm afraid but there will be others on the forum who know. I suggest a search on exactly that theme. How to replace/fix lock on rear door. wonder if broken glass got into the mechanism? in which case you may just need to egt the door card off somehow and clean it out.
Best of luck.

Thanks. The guy who had it had dismantled most of the internal links etc. so even when I try to operate the mechanism by hand from inside the door panel I can't get it to release. I don't think there are any glass fragments inside the lock. Am stumped at how to get it to release quite frankly. Re the ignition and door lock I guess for consistency and keeping it standard I will have to change both and get it reprogrammed.

Thanks again.

On the D1, the black thing that pops up, when the door is unlocked, can be worked by hand and releases the door lock. On the D2, as soon as you pull it up, it pulls itself back down. So i'd be tempted to disconnect the battery, wait a bit, then pull the lock indicator thing up, that may release it so you can really get inside it and sort it out.
But I get the feeling you have already got the door card off and are still flummoxed.
RAVE may have a way of sorting it out, also you are not the first with this prob so have a good search on t'internet, you'll find a solution I think.
I have a horrible feeling the prev owner has disconnected everything he could see and just left it, so whatever you pull on is absolutely not connected to nuffin.
Pain in the rear I know but you could take the door card off the other rear door and look inside to see how everything should be connected to give you an idea of where to go.

You need to get an expert to break in for you, as it seems like the dead lock motor is duff and you cannot get out as the door is child locked.

I did once manage to open one as a repair on the motor failed, took off cover and operated a few rods

Had this happen a couple of years ago. After and accident in France the door was replaced but could only be opened from outside, the child lock thing could not be changed to non-child lock, except by a mechanic and he had to fiddle around like heck. Lots of swearing and tiny bits dropped down inside the door!

Ah the rod to the handle, I HATE changing those!
