Hi All,
Can anyone tell me if its possible to take a Q plate back to its original reg number? I am considering buying one on a Q but am put off a little.
Also, is it possible (easy) to convert a hard top lightweight to a rag top?
Thank you

Here

Scroll down to "Q Registration Marks" (at point 12) But as brnocz says it's best to get this all clarifiled by DVLA. Give them a ring and speak to someone to be absolutely sure before you commit.

Thanks very much for the help guys. I think I need solid evidence of its year of manufacture etc etc. The seller says "should be easy to put the original number plate back on". I will ask him what evidence he has for the vehicle then ring dvla to confirm it being possible.
Thanks for the help guys.

they usually q plate something when its been modded with none original bits but it takes a fair bit of modding to build up the points.

however if its had a different chassis put on it it gains a q plate or if the chassis has been chopped around with.

why was it q plated in the first place? it could be a lot of expensive work to put right.

If its a Lightwheight on a Q, it may well not have an "original" reg no. When Q plates first came out their biggest use was ex MoD vehicles, but after a while the MoD started to supply the necessary documents to get an age related plate.

Thank you guys, phew.... its a lot more difficult aquiring a lightweight than i anticipated. My quest continues.....for now!

I don't think it's the release date you want, but the build/first use date, that is what determines the registration.
