Alright,
my '72 swb series 3 has just failed its mot on "excessive side play on the front n/s leaf spring eye (anchor)"

which is the anchor eye. is it the fixed one at the front or the shackled one at the rear?? a pic would be great to show me, so i know for sure.

i tried to ask the mot bloke which one it was but he wasnt v. helpful, all he said was that it would be obvious when i jacked it up. when i jacked it up, it wasnt obvious atall. both n/s and o/f have some sort ove movement in all the eye points. so im v. confussed

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

this is where the front of the spring attaches

and the rear of the front spring attaches to the chassis via a drop plate

how are the bushes ?

Usually, and I'm not 100% about this on a series, the front is the "anchor" as it doesn't move, and the rear is the swinging shackle, as sean says the one with the drop link.

thanks for ur replies. i understand about the eye bit, but which part is the anchor? and howmuch play is there mean to be??

i dont think there's anything associated with the series suspension that is called an anchor - get yourself a hefty prybar into where the springs meet the chassis and the drop plates and see if there is any movement - you should have to put some weight behind it for anything to move

easiest way is to go see the MOT man and ask him, as mentioned he's required to actually mark the offending item
