Hi,

Apologies as this may be a stupid question but I've got new springs on the way from GB springs. While taking the old ones off I noticed the spring plate which the shock attaches too is pretty rusty. Dont really want to throw them on them on with the new springs and can find a set of 4 anywhere. Question is should I pop them to my local painted for shot blasting and paint or drop them off at the galvanisers? Just wondering what everyone has done to keep theirs in good nick. Or where can I buy some new ones?

They clean up well with a cup brush , if you buy them there’s lots of part numbers but very expensive for what you get. I used POR15 rust treatment on the front along with axle will be doing same on rears attched pic is for the fronts

That's for the replies. I started cleaning them up this afternoon and they are actually quite solid. Do you think galvanising would cause any problems?
 
There is a minimum weight/charge at galvanisers. Up my way it's £90. That makes getting small items done waaay more expensive than paint. If however you are getting multiple items done then it can be cost effective. Two years ago I had all the tub cappings, rad panel,door frames and other small bits done at a cost of £150. Be aware the steel needs to be clean and rust free and all old galv coatings removed first so if you can't do this yourself there will an extra cost for blasting.
 
On my 2a I found the shock pins had worn but the rest of the plates were good. Cut the old pins off and replaced them with a bolt the right size with head removed. Nylock nuts make fitting/adjusting shock a lot better than the old split pin and washer. Painted with synthetic enamel black.
