Morning all,
Just joined the Landyzone community and looking forward to learning more about the world of the Land Rover and those that drive them.
I am still looking to get my first off roader to go green laneing - something I’ve wanted to do for ages and reached that point of “**** it, if I don’t do it now I never will”, so if there are any pointers about what to look for in my first off roader and ideas about some good green lanes around and about the Harrogate/Pately areas then pleas feel free to share. Thanks and I look forward to making some new likeminded friends ;-)

Hi Rich,

Welcome to the loonyzone.

For a vehicle you may want to give us an idea about budget, other uses etc Daily driver?

Recommend you join GLASS, Contact the local rep, see if they do a monthly meet. Have a look on FB for your local GLASS group, or greenlaning group.

Cheers

Thanks Neil,

I’ll take a look at GLASS this aft.

As for budget, I can probably go 3 or 4K as a starter without getting my nether regions chewed off by the boss in doors.

I’ve seen a few moded Disco’s around that price waxing lyrical about all the welding being done, sliders, suspension lifting etc.

Fortunately I’ve run and spannered a rally car in my past so I’m reasonably mechanical savvy, but clearly still got lots to learn of course.

Always open to good advice and guidance. Thanks for the message too.

Sounds like a good budget. If I was you, IMHO, I would look at buying a std good condition D1 or D2 and have a good wedge of cash left over to play with. Or , if you have the time and want a slightly broken one and weld it up ..LOL. @Marmaduke is the current King of buying cheap D1's and fixing them up. Then modify as you feel you need to after a few days greenlaning . There are plenty of people on here who have advice on what to look for on each .
I have seen some very well modded motors and some done by people who know no better, which is why I think a std motor would be a better buy, as an example you will be surprised ow many "snorkels" are not sealed . Things like lifts etc, have a read on here, there are threads about adding lifts and what else may be needed etc.

Good luck.

Strewth I'd sell him mine for 4k:p
Hopefully I'll finish my project one next weekend and stick it on eBay :D

@Richy Payne you should have a fair few to choose from with a 4k budget
