Hi
I live in Northern ireland.
I drive a landrover defender 110, 200tdi engine, year 1991. The middle doors are rotten above the latch and need replaced. I am not sure exactly what a skin is and would that do? The interior of the door is fine, glass, buttons and regulators are all fine but the frame is rotten. Could you point me in the right direction ?

2) the turbo on my car has a bit of play horizontally in the bearing area, do you buy refurbished turbo's or do i need a new one or reconstruction kit?
thanks for your help,
shane

Hi Shane

1, The outside part of the door is the skin.

2, There should be some lateral movement in the turbo bearings. If some one has told you it needs replacing, I'd be very suspicious unless you know you can trust them, get a second opinion from someone you trust.

Is the turbo whistling louder than normal?

Is your truck chucking out clouds of smoke?

If not, chances are your turbo's fine........

Where the feck'd he go?

Why the feck am I talking to myself?

Hey, thanks for your helpful responses. I appreciate it - call off the dogs my wife just had a baby so can't spend too long at computer!!!

Doors - thanks now i know what a skin is - what would be the best approach to reparing rotten doors that are holed above the latch?

Turbo - nope to clouds of smoke, just on start-up. Someone suggested there maybe a loss of pressure/power from the turbo - which maybe something leading to the turbo.

no serious whistling - just a noise in 4th and 5th gear but i was told that's the transmission. ??

p.s. i might not log in again until tomorrow just to warn you im not ignoring you or being rude :)

Dogs recalled :D

Doors TBH I dont know, guess it depends how bad they are.

Turbo what colour is the smoke? then do a search on here for that colour smoke. But again TBH it depends on how excessive the smoke is.
Give the turbo pipes a squeeze all over just to see how firm they are i.e. No soft spots where they could collapse under load.

Whistling transmission again depends how severe.

Didn't think you were being rude ;)

:welcome2:

think most 200tdis smoke on start up, is it just after the engine has fired up you get a plume and then runs clear after?

cant remember the last time i saw a 200tdi that doesnt :)
