Land Rover door respray paint question

Got some new doors I've striped down and want to respray.

I like my landies 'rough and ready' look so I'm going to do it with aerosols.

I've read a few threads and I understand the preparation is key but my question is what's the best primer/top coat/lacquer combination?

I know nothing about paint and really want to invest in the best aerosol spray pain I can!

How may coats of primer and topcoat should I use? To lacquer or not to lacquer?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Before anybody can give you any information about primers etc. what is the base you're working on; you'll probably need an etch primer for aluminium.

To be honest I was hoping not to have to strip it back to bare metal.

Was planning on keying up the existing paint work - unless that's an absolute no no?

Surely someone has used aerosols to paint some of their body work and has some advice to give??

I did the drivers door recently. It came with a grey primer base coat. I already had a tin of paint. I just brush painted it. It's quite a basic rough and ready finish. Gave it. Three coats. I'm content with it like that cos I intend to give it a full respray eventually. It took about 12 hours between coats.

Have you tried or seen a low pressure high volume spray unit. Great for a quick finish and only about 30 quid. Im having great results with a semi gloss finish on my series..
