Hi I'm hoping somebody can help me as I feel like I'm at a dead end!
I bought a defender 110 2.5na ex Royal Mail 1984 at a very reasonable price. Understanding that there was a lot of work to do. Engine runs fine and I'm just working my way through it. However I had no clutch pedal or a very soft one anyway so I decided to change the slave cylinder and the master cylinder which was no problem and now have a very good pedal. However the friction plate seems to be seized to the fly wheel. (Expected as its been stood for 13 years) so I tried putting it into gear to release this. I did this a few times and then this is where my problem started it the gear stick got stuck in a position. I say position because it's not stuck in gear because the engine just starts up without trying to move. I have tried everything to get this out of the position but no luck. I have taken the gear stick housing off and looked in there, also the 4wheel drive housing and then the whole top on the gearbox and nothing it just won't come out. I really don't want to send it off to a gearbox specialist as I think it could be something simple. However I may not have a choice. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Not quite clear.

Does the main gear lever moves into most of the gear positions? Or is it stuck rigidly in some position?

Hi the gear lever is stuck rigid. When I took it off and the whole top. It was solid in the top of the gearbox

When you say that you put it into gear a few times to try and break the clutch free, can you describe what you mean? Engine running/car moving/use of clutch pedal etc.

Are you sure that the main gearbox is in neutral - or could the transfer box be in neutral?
