I have been chasing a vibration at between 35 and 45 miles an hour under load. having removed the front prop shaft and driving up the road in difflock it dissappears. The vibration can also be a sort of drumming vibration when say giving it the beans in 4th out a 30 limit or something up a hill where full torque is applied to it from slow speed.

Now the propshaft uj's are good as they were replaced last year, with slight play but not bad by any means. The prop has shed its balance weights, but after attaching a bit of lead to it and moving it about this doesn't seem to have cured the problem. I wonder if maybe it has launched it self before my ownership (judging by the dents to the floor) and become bent. The vibration has always been there and not been getting worse.

There is slight play in the transfer box output bearing if you really grab it maybe 2mm and has slight run out with the prop connected, but not with it disconnected.

Does this sound like classic knackered propshaft I doubt such negligible play in the bearing could cause such a profound vibration. I'd rather not replace the prop, when it could be an easy bearing fix. (was actually going to do it this morning but the supplier didn't have the bearing in stock)

Thanks

James

hi. i have exactly the same problem. so far i've replaced the front prop and output bearing on the transfer box. still no joy. i'm suspecting front diff now. there's loads of threads on here about it, but none with any real outcome except uj's.
let me know if you fix it cos it's doing my head in!
cheers

The front diff it oil tight with no play in the bearing, so I have to assume its the T box bearing or prop.

Think I will just replace both. Bastard bloody money pit vehicles! Trouble with identifying problems there are a wide variety of things to look at for any given fault.
