... the difference between a LT230R transfer box and a (later) LT230T one?
Ah've just changed mine (along with gearboxes) and noticed quite a bit of difference. Beforehand with the 230r box me engine was revvin' quite hard, but now with the 230t it's revvin' nowhere near as hard!
And, how do ah know if ah've got the LT77 or LT77S gearbox?

Cheers;) :D

Is there not a sticker (plaque) just to the left of the handbrake drum (all covered in goo, mud and oil) which tells you which one you have?

Also i think the older R is Roller bearings and the T is Tapered bearings - but in a 200 i think it will almost certainly be a T as that came out in '88.

The ratios are not the same for disco / defender, have you just changed the original defender one for a (more favourably ratioed) disco one?

Howdoos Odie;)
Aye there's a sticker there on the one ah've just put in sayin' 1.410:1 which makes that a 'T' version for the 110, and had a look in the haynes manual to check where the identifacation numbers were and it's deffo a 'T'.
The other one that ah took out was, accordin' to haynes again, an 'R' version. Wasn't a sticker on this one.
Ah don't think the 'new' box is from a Disco, it came out off another def110 and accordin' to the workshop manual it says lt230t -110 model- High= 1.410:1.
Ah was just curious as to the differences between the two as the bus was a pick-up and the other was a hardtop mountain rescue.
Cheers Odie;) :D

yer old one might have had a different set of gears in, altering the ratio

the disco version is 1.2ish:1

All good in Sunny Kernow cheers Buster, hope all's good with you chaps!

Tis strange that, i was under the impression they stopped using the "R"'s into the 90's coz they weren't as reliable, so either they slipped one your bus or it had been previously replaced. Am pretty sure the R and T is just to do with the bearings though.

Good old landy quirks eh, it would make life so much easier if they had a memory and knew what they'd had done to em in the past!

Hope all else well, i'm off to zzzzzzzzzzzzz:D:D

Just had a quick look and found this...

Range Rover Classic / Disco - 1.222
V8 90 (factory with LT85 main box) - 1.192
Early 110 - 1.667
90/110 - 1.41
Range Rover 3 speed auto - 1.003
Low range is always 3.32.

so that yours is probly from a early 110 - which would obvioulsy suit better if it was doing mountain rescues, better control but lower speeds.

Hehe, aye it would be good if they had a memory:D Get's a bit confusin' between the two 110's as some of the stuff on the white one is the older style parts, but other stuff is newer type, and vice versa on the bus!! ;) :D
