Hello again!

I got Bessie back from the workshop/garage yesterday after leaving her there on the 5th February.

She needed a new gearbox as I totally f****d the reverse gear in my last one, and she also needed some welding, springs and so on...

Within a mile of the garage, on my way home, there was a dull thud and I lost drive.

This continued all the way home. fwd lever has to be pulled up by hand as it barely moves on it's own but that can be sorted with some wd40, I think, and the low range gears and box work just fine with no jumping.

On closer inspection, I noticed that the natural rock of the engine on it's mounts when starting or stopping, accelerating or decelerating moves the transfer lever slightly not even as much as 1 inch towards the neutral position and that's how I'm losing the drive, as it just jumps out drive then.

I prefer to stop completely before trying to push it back into 2wd high just in case I'm going to cause damage.

I only have this evening to fix this, as I need to take my beloved up to the Scottish Highlands fully loaded with kit and bikes and don't want to drive with my foot wedged at the bottom of the transfer lever (although this does cure the problem, it does make for an interesting time when changing gears) so I'm hoping you can tell me what's wrong, and that it's simple to repair.

Any ideas?

In the short term you could use a piece of wood with a v cut in it to jam it in place. In the long term check the gearbox and engine mountings to find out why its rocking.
