Strange title to the thread but it's the best way that I can describe the noise I'm hearing, like the engines on a plane in reverse thrust during landing.

I only get this noise when I take my foot off the gas eg: cruising at 50mph then slowing down for a junction. I dunno if it's tyre/wind noise or if there is something mechanically wrong. There isn't any whirring/whistling noise when I've got my foot on the gas though.

Is this normal?

when he takes his foot off???? it int the turbo! the turbo will spin down in no time when yer off the throttle.
is it at high speed and goes away when yer get say under 45 mph?
say you was traveling at 70 and come off the throttle???

Yep that sounds about right. I'm away from home right now and won't be getting in the driving seat of the disco for another 2 weeks but the noise is loudest when slowing down from high speeds and not as noticeable when slowling down from low speeds.
If I remember right, it seems to go away when putting the clutch pedal down?? I would need to double check that when I get home though.

i never said that! :D i just dont worry about it personally, seems to be from over the passenger side on mine but upon inspection after inspection i cant find nothing and no it aint the turbo even though it is sitting on the passenger side.
