i have an 07 defender and i drive it a lot in York City which does get very congested
its pretty good because u just ride around in 1st or 2nd on tick over and dont use as much fuel, sometimes 3rd gear
Defenders have so much road presence too, i find im king of the road:p so people dont come near u in traffic
u always get right of way
i find it very easy to drive in the city

today was funny, on 2 seperate occasions today a merc 4x4 i think its ML or summat saw me on a single track lane and he immediately pulled over to let me (the king) to pass in my superior car :p
and also a new toyota hilux did the same
i think they are scared :D
oh i love my defender :)

i hope above helps

Fantastic mate! Thank you for sharing your driving experience in the city in a defender. Yes the presence itself makes the drivers scared. My father owns a Mercedes Benz G 55 AMG, when I take that out on weekends, everyone moves out the fast lane on the motorway automatically. I guess its sound of those 500 horse powers and the mightly presence of the car itself. :D

Quick question how did you register your defender in NY? I thought the usa banned the car? Didnt land rover stop selling the defenders in the US years back?

LOL! i live in York, North Yorkshire in UK not New York hehe
a landy in new york now that would be comedy :p

Cheers mate. When to my land rover dealer here in dubai and find out the options for the car. All defenders come in base trim, no sunroof option. I pushed him to find out about the sunroof. They only bring between 20 to 30 defenders every 2 - 4 years in the middle east.

Not driven an 07 Defender, but If you drive an earlier Defender (even a Td5) in stop start traffic, your clutch leg gets pretty sore and ankle and thigh a bit stiff. Saying that I have a bad knee anyway, so maybe I'm just puny.

Any of you Dubai / UK back-and-forwarders fancy getting me a dealership wheel cover in arabic for a 750x16 tyre? I'll even pay!

Cheers

I drove my 130 in London for three years and still take it in now and then. Bus and cab drivers will give you a bit more leeway than they will a car or even a Discovery, Range Rover or Japjunk equivalent. Tipper drivers treat you the same way they treat everybody else. Tree huggers tended to leave me alone, thought I was either a utility company or military and I wasn't on the school run. In fact, the only problem I had was from some silly bitch dropping her kids off from a Jeep!

Now, back in Doha and Dubai...

I drive mine in Manchester while at uni. Few weeks ago a 206 tailed me at the traffic lights just outside here. He needed a new bonnet, front bumper, grill etc. I said if he feels like it he can send me some black paint! ;) Yep, they rock in the city!! :D
