Just looking to buy some extended bump stops. Some are £14 each others are over £30 each . So was wondering is there any benefit in going for the dearer ones?

All I can see is that the dear ones have stainless steel mounting plates

Thanks

Stainless mounting plates won't rust and so will be easier to remove, bump stops commonly dropp off where they meet the plate so the more expencive ones might not ? Apart from that they're the same

Don't forget that Stainless Steel and mild Steel have different electrical properties. a bit like where steel and ally meet the alli rots, SS to Steel cause increased corrosion unless a good insulating barrier is incorporated.

I just masticked a bit of rubber to the metal bit on the bump stop (cheapy ones) to stop crap getting in and rotting the metal. Hopefully should make them last a bit longer than the old ones.

Isn't the reason people use stainless bolts is so they don't rust to bodywork ;)

you will never notice in your life time. Stainless steel nuts and bolts are common on ships at the flanges of steel pipe carrying salt water for flushing and fire fighting. So should be ok for a land rover bump stop:rolleyes:;)

Yes but ships are made out of quality steel ;) I have seen a fair few Defenders running around with rust streaks below the door hinges which are sporting shiny ss screws.

Stainless steel to galve especially sets up a significant flow of electrons. Not that I think Land Rovers will disintegrate overnight :)

My new fuel tank is SS and the guard is galvanised and both will be bolted to an old mild steel chassis.
