Insurance rip off

When I bought my first defender a couple of months back I insured it with Adrian Flux. The premium was just below £300, which I thought was reasonable. This week (for reasons outside this thread) the Landy had to go and I bought another. I phoned Adrian Flux to inform them of the vehicle change, and I expected a small fee for this. I was quoted £500 pound EXTRA for the change of vehicle. I asked the person on the other end to justify this. The only explanation she could offer was "well it is a bit newer". Needless to say I declined their offer.
I went to the website with the furry animals and got quotes from £200 upwards. I went with LV at £240 as this has lower excess and protected NCD. The vehicle by the way, was 2005 Defender TD5. This is not the first time I have been disappointed by Adrian Flux, they recently quoted me a frighteningly high premium for a Ford Focus. Strangely enough I ended up with LV on that one too for around one third of the price. Adrian Flux id definitely off my xmas list:(

They did the same to me, over a grand to pay when swapping to another car, ended up with Hastings at less than 300 for same cover.

I'm not sure its a rip off as such.
Dont get me wrong I'm not a fan of Flux but it does pay to shop around.
I'm sure there are companies out there who would charge you more, normally all the ones in the Landy mags who claim to be specialists.
Age and vehicle are only part of the risk

I've been with Admiral multi car for 5 years now and the Disco costs me £172 fully comp a year and I'm a spritely 51.
That said fookers took £29 extra off me for being retired!!

Well, my premium in effect jumped from 300 to 800 (give or take) in a matter of weeks. Changing to another Defender couldn't change the risk that much. Could it?
I think you are making the mistake that there is a human with free will deciding these. Don't worry about it... move on.... Every now and again insurance offer deals and once you get on one its cheaper.... I once had my heritage policy lapse by a day to try and renew and get told that policy didn't exist any more, an extra £30 please..ohh and this policy isn't as good as the one you were on.
Just shop around every time.
