Hi Folks,

gonna spend some money on a disc td5 auto 2001, its due a service and have local inde guy going to do it, wht do i need she has done 77k, oil and filters done at 68k about 12mths ago.

i guess air and oil filters(told there are two), diesel filter, box oil (what type)

what else should be checked, i fitted egr plate but hadn`t time or tools to take manifold off and wash marmite out so he will do this as well, may get one of them vortex things to put in the air tube after the filter, do these work. i just want her to run sweeter.

any help much appreciated with oil types, other service stuff and ruuning tips

Suggest any reasonable oil for the engine, I have used synthetic for most changes, but now on castrol magnatec diesel, which seems pretty good.

MTF94 in the gearbox, and normal EP gear oil in diffs etc.

Yes there are 2 oil filters, and don't forget the air and fuel filter.

Get the lot done properly now, then you can reduce the work next time, knowing the current state of the service history. You don't do all the filters every time, and likewise just do the diff/gearbox oil every other time.

I would also consider a change of brake fluid...

I have the Service Schedule for the TD5...drop me a mail and I'll send it to you if you need it.

5w/30 engine oil, just get the best you can afford. Opie Oils will hook you up with some good oil.

MTF 94 in the gearbox.

EP 80w/90 for the transfer box and diffs.

Like Martin says you don't need to change everything everytime,

i think transmission oils are every 24000 miles but it certainly wont hurt to be changed more regular.
