Hey folks,
So i am new to the forum, but have proudly been a Land Rover owner for just over a year now. Valiantly defending its honour against all in-sundry (Namely the toyota owners) I do however have a little hassle with my Disco 2. Its an Auto box, and not long after i got it, i heard a grating sound. This same sound has cost me a fair bit of my SA rands and is rather persistent in sticking around. The sound only happens at +- 2250Rpm and only when in drive, if you put the truck in neutral it doesn't make the sound.
the work that has been carried out so far;
Total removal of gearbox transfer box torque converter, assessed and reinstalled (All by a local mechanic - who specializes in Landys)
Transfer box overhaul
Center silencer replaced with free flow pipe.
Front Prop-Shaft over hauled, and at one stage the mechanic actuallyhad both propshafts removed to test the drivetrain, at that point the sound went)
Rear Prop-shaft replaced
It seems as though the sound only happens under load. I have removed the rear silencer and tested it, thinking it could have been a loose baffel plate, but alas.
I am also thinking of removing the rear prop-shaft and running it as a front wheel drive to see if the sound could be coming from the rear diff.
Is there anything else i should be looking at? because its quite an annoying sound, and it really doesn't sound healthy at all.
Please help.... ANYBODY
