In from the cold...

Hello Landyzoners!

So, after nearly 30 years (yep that's right) of coveting Land Rovers, I finally took the plung and scooped my 1st Landy this week! I've had 'other' 4x4's and they've been the main family truck, so I've never taken it off-road, unless it's to park it!

I'm about as mechanically capable as a ribeye steak. But, I'm determined to have a go and 'try' to do some of the maintenance and 'upgrades' to my new ward. Therefore, I've bought something that appears to run well and if I break it, I won't be too distraught!

My goal is to take the truck and gradually nurse it back to full health (it's not too shabby I think) as well as give it a bit more capability and tools for some adventuring with the support of a decent specialist, I might add (Challenger 4x4 in Tongham is my specialist of choice as I'm near Guildford).

Having spent the last few weeks scowering the web for information on purchasing, typcial issues, knowledge and wisdom; Landyzone kept coming up. So, here I am, Landyzone and Land Rover virgin. I chose a Discovery because it was the least expensive way to get my fix. Of course, I may be wrong about that shortly!

I'm nervous with excitement about getting the truck confirmed as fit and beginning the projects (quite a list I'm forming - must dos, should dos and could dos) as well as enjoying the off-road abilities. And, I'm really looking forward to being part of the Landyzone community.

Right, I'm off to scour the forum for wisdom on rear wiper motors, as I feel this may be within my limited tallents and does not require me touching anything essential

Welcome to the forum, I'm guessing that you've gone tdi or td5 both of which are very capable off road and certainly up to the job even with a standard setup, personally I'd just put some all terrains on it and go and enjoy and learn.

Thanks Marmaduke. It's a TD5 and ATs are on the list, very near the top. I've done a local BOAT and I think I could have walked it faster! But, I giggled like a school boy all the way along it.

That's what it's all about, wait til the mud is flying up and covering your bonnet, you get some great looks parking down the supermarket when it's plastered in mud especially when it leaves massive clumps behind that have fell from under the arches. Good luck trying to get it washed at your local Iraqi car wash afterwards though....
