Right then the old Landy project does seem to be a bit of a mix of metric and imperial nuts and bolts. You have to love the Army keeping it interesting using what is to hand!

So with that in mind I had to drill out a retaining screw on the rear brake drum but now need to tap out what's left of it.

My question is what size is the thread? All answers on a postcard please or you could just post it here if it pleases you :)

Probably imperial, and a UNC size. There were quite a few UNC threads on our Series IIb so it may well have carried on. Best way to judge is to look at the ones that have come out whole.

Ordered some screw extractors and I know theres no need to panic over it just wondered and thought I would have a stab at sorting it because if I bugger it up its no biggy!

The retaining screw is unnecessary, unless you're very fussy. It makes no difference to braking.

It's there for a purpose. If you lose a wheel for any reason, the brake drum stays on and you won't lose your brakes. If the brake drum comes off, you'll push the brake cylinder pistons out of the cylinders and you'll lose all your brakes.
