Hi All

Stuck in Cyprus my89 90 has huge slack in the drive train, in clonks as I take up the clutch and clonks again on acceleration and kind of wobbles about when the thottle pedal is eased, it's horrible to drive whats going on???
I have checked A frame bushes which seem fine, front prop is new rear seems stable, could it be gearbox, Half shafts or rear diff, how do I check these to confirm or otherwise.
Any help would be greatly apprecitated.

UJs ?

get a pry bar in between the yokes - unless they are well shot just pulling the shafts by hand won't prove anything

try taking one of the props off - it might be unbalanced

have a look at the drive members/flanges for wear

Chock the wheels , let the handrake off and put her in nutral on the transfer box and rotate the handbreak drum back and forth and see how far she rotates , also pull off your hubcaps so you can see the ends of the halfshafts and splines for ware .
Do the same on the front . ( but rotate the front prop ) .
If nothing obviouse .
jack up one side front and back ( same time ) , put the transfer box into gear , and 1st gear then rotate the wheels and see what you got .

Try that for now

Hi All

Done all that has been suggested and been able to Identify the the root cause, it's not good news, Mainshaft/ input gear has excessive wear, as does the front diff, the rear also has some wear but not excessive, so I have three problems to solve, before I attempt to drive back to UK.
Any ideas any one? I could get new input gear and mainshaft sent out, but what about the Differentials what can I do with them? can they be repaired.
Any Ideas would be welcome.

If your mainshaft is badly warn it might be cheaper to throw in a good 2nd hand box then fork out for a new mainshaft + extras and labour times ( unless you got all the tools/press's and knowhow etc to do it yourself ).
your diffs could be adjusted by taking out the backlash on the pinion and crown wheel .
The rears easyer to do than the front ( have to strip down front hubs to remove the halfshafts / rear you take off the end caps of your hubs .

as a last resort get you home you can take off the front prop and engage difflock so you can still drive ( rear drive only ) .
Ive got the workshop manuals in PDF if you need them ( pm me with your email . )
