How to replace Wing Mirror glass

Just a follow up. I was wondering why one had to fit the retaining circular clip to the main assembly first and not attach it to the mirror first and then mount the combined unit. I found that attaching the retaining clip is quite tricky to align, so I agree and suggest mounting the mirror AFTER the clip and found also that by inserting the vehicle side first, it was quite easy to clip in the outer side.
Must add that the replacement mirror at indy (Britpart-~15quid, but in SA) was less than half the price of the stealer (though they didn't have the clip, it was only ~5 quid)

Emmmm, see post #20 :D

yes, saw that (afetr the fact) but didn't quite follow the scraper part..and wasn't in my garage when I fitted it. Nervous about taking steel tools to a mirror!! My point was that it was easier than I thought.

Yes it's easy when you know how. The scraper is only to give a wide area of leverage on the mirror, no force required.:)

Even less on Island, or used to be. £2.50 each. Buy a few as part of a bigger order (to avoid postage cost) and leave them in the shed. That way you'll ensure no mirror will ever break again!

When changing the glass, don't forget to put a blanket on the ground under the mirror to prevent it smashing again when you drop it during the fitting. !!!

Looks like I got the cheap arse mirrors, no wonder it wont fit. May try and cut out the middle plastic that stops the unit going all the way onto the "stump".

Where do you get the proper mirrors, its hard to tell on fleabay what type they are

I get them from Island 4x4. You might want to get a service kit and any other parts you might need as their postage is a bit steep for 1 item.

Oh, and get 3 or 4 of the plastic clips because you'll break it if you only have 1!

Easy. Buy a replacement mirror complete from a breakers.

Fit mirror (super easy).

Next drive along road until some wucking fanker clips your newly installed mirror. The glass will just pop out and hang by the wires within the mirror body.

Pull over to side of road, engage Park, then clip mirror back into place.

Sorted. Can't see what all the fuss is about. :D
