how to remove engine

Hope someone can help with this as I've had conflicting opinions so far! I'm replacing the engine in a 1998 1.8i. Any one know if the engine comes out without taking out the gearbox, 4x4 unit etc or does it have to come out all in one? Cheers!

G13SJC has done it using an engine hoist, couldnt find his 'Project Freelander' thread

I took inspiration from his approach, only; I lowered the engine on a fabricated cradle.Alternator and PS pump has to come off
