is the 19J if well intercooled and serviced? what else can you do to these to improve every day living life?

my block is 1990 from a 90, it has never missed a service and in the 49368 miles done never missed a beat. it has had 3/4 of them miles hasn't been towed with, all of this will be in favour but I want it to live on.

any help will be great. thanks:cool:

I'd say a well serviced 19J is an extremely reliable engine. Mine currently has 175,000 miles on the clock, is a 1989 90 and has just done a 500 miles round trip from Doncaster to play on Salisbury Plain and back over the weekend.

I knew it was overheating before I went 'cos the viscous fan had literally dropped off and got lost .. as had the heater matrix and I'd by-passed the heater completely! However, when on the Plains a bottle of K-Seal, emergency measures, and all was well. The addition of WLM's fan improved it so well it ran at 60+ all the way home at normal temps .. with occasional bursts to 70 ..

just my engine came out a G.REG 90 truck cab and I know the engine well as its out my mates old landy, great starter and driver, but its 0nly just under 50000miles and has never missed a service or a beat.

but they seem to be slaged off a lot, thanks for getting back to me PD:5bcheers2:

The general consensus seems to be that the early ones were pretty bad, but most of those have died by now. Later ones had a bit more development and are fine if looked after. It probably didn't help that in the 1980s anything turbo usually meant fast, rather than 'not as underpowered as the old engine' as was the case with the 19J.

Look after it, keep the cooling system in good condition and also keep an eye/ear out for any problems and fix them as they develop.
