how do you "tweak the gear selector"?

hi all
how do you "tweak the gear selector"? occasionally when i start (p showing on dash) the p dissapears and then the beep and the dreaded "GEARBOX FAULT" comes up.
start in neutral no problem.
going down through gears the led changes very slightly before the lever is in that gear.
going up through gears there is a definite click just before the led comes on until you get to park then no definite click.

If you mean adjust when you say tweak there is a thread on the end of the cable which will allow adjustment. On mine the point where the arm was attached to the gearbox was not correctly fitted after a problem resulting in sloppy selection and no 1st until i got underneath. Might be worth checking that all is tight. I put it in park after diconnecting the cable from the gear selector and then rifitted using the adjuster to make sure that the g\box matched the stick.
