Hi all

This is my story so far:

Bought myself a boat and needed something to tow it, so went and bought myself a Shogun (Now Now you can all stop spitting at the screen now). Anyway that didn’t last very long so I bought myself a TD5 Discovery (2000) this done the job lovely and I thought I may do a bit of Green laneing so bought a winch bumper and winch, didn't like having just the 1 vehicle so bought a (2003) Freelander served its purpose of just being a spare vehicle.
Then I went and watch a RTV trail at Newnham Park, realised that my discovery was too good to bash around trees and rocks so I went out and Bought a (1984) Defender pick up (No 1) with 200tdi conversion, I 'm a big lad and struggled to squeeze in the beast, so threw my toys out the pram and gave that to my father (For a lot less than I paid) so off I went on the hunt for another Van type Defender found a (1994) 300Tdi Defender (No 2) few dents here and there, ideal for a bit of RTV, so that was it started spending monies on suspension and service, notice the fan belt was very perished so had the cam belt done, went to do my first RTV in January was told that I would need my MOT cert, Ah this is when I remembered that the gentlemen I bought it off couldn't find it and was going to forward it to me ( I think you all know where this is going) any text this nice gentlemen and asked if he had found the MOT cert, Guess what it turns out that the MOT ran out in November 2011, So I had been driving it about with no MOT for 2 months (My own Fault I Know), Any way took it for MOT and it failed on Bushes-Brakes-steering etc. etc....... Cost £768.00 what a bargain (NOT), it not all bad news I did manage to get £500 of the gentlemen towards this expense, so 1 good truck good to go (Did my first RTV without MOT).

Did my second RTV with MOT at Newnham park and now I have got my mate involved he is going to double drive my (No 2) (94) Defender, he has never driven off road, anyway first stage was a poor start scored a 7, my mate also scored a 7 but now needed to drive the landy over to the next stage, he took one look at the slope to go down and questioned it, so with all my world of experience of off roading (1 RTV) I told him low ratio 1st gear and don’t touch the brake just let the truck take itself down the slope, so off he went, and yes you guessed it somehow he managed to knock it into neutral and went bouncing down this slope at high speed but taking note that I said don’t touch the brake so he didn’t planted the truck into a tree brake this certainly stop the landy in its track as well as uprooting the tree (Lucky for me I had bought a terraferma Winch bumper) so no damage awesome we can all laugh about it.

So there we go Defender No 2 bought and RTV trailed.

My mate loved it and wanted to get a Landy, so with that in mind off I went shopping again and found a (93) Pick up landy ;)(No 3) and cheap too, so with a small profit sold to my mate. Payment due in July ish….
Awesome truck great he done a couple of RTV events.
So the story continues my Dad was not happy with No1 Defender and felt it was under performing, so off I went again and found (No 4) a red van Defender great now everybody is happy or so you would think.
My No 2 Landy had to visit the garage again for a cv joint and a screeching noise, oh yes another £668  turned out that screeching noise was in the gearbox, but while it was in the garage those itchy fingers were at it again surfing the eBay and I found a (No 5) (96) pick up defender, ideal now I won’t miss the next RTV while my (No2) landy is in the garage, spent all Saturday prepping this (No 5) landy ready for the RTV on Sunday brilliant, ah until Sunday morning when I drove the No 5 Landy to take the dog for a walk and the clutch just disappeared, managed to drive it home in second gear through the red light and all.
Ok so still went to RTV but now I’m going to drive my mates No 3 Landy at the event, I did put a dent in his wing and then diff lock failed, we managed to get it back in diff lock but at the end of the day couldn’t get it out again, so anyway he decide to drive it home, oh dear yes the gearbox went bang on the journey home.
So now he needs a LT77 gearbox and transfer box.
I need my head examined as to why I keep buying Defenders (I have no money left).

Sorry for the long first post but you did say you wanted our stories

Tony
