Hi all, my name is Simon and I bought a Discovery TD5 in 2009.
It is a W reg 2000 Auto. Thought I would beat the tax man and get the older taxation rate.
No long after I bought it I was on the M69 motorway about a mile from the M1 when the engine started to knock.
Took the car to Andys Landys in Coventry to find out that one of the con rods had snapped off and gone straight through the block.
After an engine rebuild and a large bill, I was back on the road. The Mot came along it it sailed through.
Front brakes and discs replaced and new tyres all round soon followed and not to much more until my next MOT.
Straight through again with a note on a small amount of play in one of the rear anti-roll bar links. I decided to order two and the metal brackets for the rear mud flaps (a bit holly). These parts arrived and I fitted them on.
Soon after the rear height sensors went wrong and they were replaced. Then a hole in one of the airbags, again replaced.
Next to go were the Watts linkage bushes, so they were ordered and replaced again by me and the vice. (real good fun).
Alternator gave up next and what a job to get this off. Reconditioned by SAC in Coventry and refitted by me.
Last week I got a strange sound from the front when turning the steering, like an old hinge that needs to be oiled. I thought the steering box had given up the ghost. It turned out to be a dry joint on the Drag link. New Drag link ordered and fixed.
Next was the tailgate lock playing up. Again ordered and replaced.
Now I have a rattle at 2250 revs when driving, just as its about to change gear but i can accelerate through it at around 3000 rpm to get through the box quicker and all is quiet.
All the oils, gearbox, Transfer box, ace and steering. Filters and coolant changed the other day
All in all, in the last two months it has been a money pit but I intend to just keep on fixing the problems until i can no longer fix it myself.
Even after all these problems I still love the car and would defo buy another.
I just love reading the topics and what other people have had problems with.
Hope to find some of you around the site and I hope that my experienses can help somebody else at some point.
Simon.
