I would like to introduce myself and say hi.
I have a question for someone with knowledge of the 4.4 diesel. I am a garage owner and have been trading since 1978. This is my 10 land rover and my 4 range rover. I have a problem with my current 4.4 diesel. I was away weekend towing my caravan and just setting of for the 100 mile journey home, two miles into the trip I was exiting a roundabout onto a duel carriageway. All was well then plumes of white smoke and loss of power (just like a blown turbo) with a warning message on the dash that I never rear as I was more concerned with the white smoke and that I had removed the view of the road for all the following traffic. (very as well)
The vehicle lost power and I tried to get onto as much of the verge as possible. Eventually the car started again after checking the oil and water, both fine. After some hesitation the car started and idled ok. I drove for about 1/2 a mile at about 20 mph to the next layby to get out of halmsway. As the next roundabout took me onto the A14 for about 90 miles I chose to call out the recovery service and was taken the 96 miles to my workshop.
Sorry its long winded. My question is the car starts and idles and revs to about 3000 ram fine, as if nothing is wrong, but and a big but. I have got a yellow oily substance in the o/s exhaust. When I wiped my finger in the tail pipe it was clean except for the oily yellow liquid but the left hand tailpipe was as expected, black and sooty with a trace of water. What is the yellow oily substance. I have not taken on a run as I don't want to do anymore damage. Thanks in advance. Shire-mts.
