Advice please guys!! I have a '96 P38, gas converted which I love. Sadly, she started making a bit of a ticking noise-diagnosed as manifold gaskets, which were duly replaced. She now sounds like a tractor! Head gasket now diagnosed.... but also getting scary stories about liners and block could be porous etc.
She has never overheated and in the two years I've had her, has always used about 1 pt water per 300 miles or so, and worked pretty hard, towing etc.
Advice from local landrover garage is scrap her and get something else, but my thoughts run a bit along the "better the devil you know" line, with the budget I would have to buy another one probably only buying something similar.
I'm worried i could spend loads on the hg being done, then find it still hasn't cured her.
Ideas, solutions from those who have had to make the same decision are very welcome!! Thanks :)

ticking like a spoon on a cast iron bath is liners and worse when warm, head gaskets do go and cause ticking noise.

With respect to liner slip-only strip down will confirm if it has or has not suffered liner slip

get the heads off and take a look at the gaskets and the liners sat in the block. This will show up any problems. Ticking can be a leaking manifold split nearly always on drivers side.
