Series 2 Help with a Parasitic fuel gauge

Hi all,

I have a parasitic drain in my recently restored ‘59 series 2 that will kill my battery if left with the terminals connected for 24 hours.

I have diagnosed it to be the fuel gauge, which would show a reading when the truck was off. When I remove the wire to the gauge the draw goes away.

Any guesses as to how to correct this or what to look for to resolve it (other than the obvious solution of simply removing the wire permanently - who needs a fuel gauge?!?).

Your guage is wired incorrectly it should be isolated from the live circuit by ignition switch...sounds like it's supply is before the switch...does it read correctly?...

Someone has been fiddling with your wiring! It is ignition switched so impossible to be live with the ignition off, unless it has been fiddled with.

Did you restore it yourself?

As others have said, the guage should be isolated with ignition off. Is it reading with ignition off? It could be a short circuit somewhere behind the dash binnicle, there is a lot of wiring back there and stuff rattles loose in old landies.
