i had just over 1/4 of a tank of diesel so bought some pure vegetable oil 20litres put it in went for about 200yards cut out went and bought another 30litres of diesel and new filter and wen i put it under load it wont rev just cuts out its 300tdi any help as i cant get it home from father in laws.

I've a theory that veg oil added straight to the fuel tank goes to the bottom, the vehicle then pulls neat veg oil straight into the system. I always mix with diesel in drums now and pour that into the tank.
Leave the engine ticking over or at fast idle for half an hour or so and your problem might be solved.

I suspect the viscosity is too thick currently and could be thinned with max 10% petrol.

i have a full tank so how much would you say if i tuck some out and added petrol.

No more than a gallon I reckon the weather is your issue- I had similar with a peugeot when the veg oil was cold

just try wot slobby rod sez, but cover half yer rad wiv cardboard to get the engine hot.
i do this each winter, but make sure its on the left hand side looking at yer engine or you`ll cover yer intercooler rad.

once the engine gets hot and the injection pump gets hot, it`ll flow the oil/derv better..

good luck

where is the sedimenter will check that its a 90 1988 oh and checked the lift pump with filter off and was pusshing fuel threw wen manually .

So you have a lucas pump? and a 19j if so get it out quick

I thought it was a 200 tdi

lucas pumps -if not modified tend to fail with veg oil viscosity.

Google for yourself

The pumps are cheap so if it is that I wouldn't worry too much. You can actually buy some with removable filters on which are ideal if you're running veggie oil.

I used to push my luck with veggie oil in the winter too when I had a 300 tdi disco. I often encountered problems on cold mornings when starting it but when it started, it was fine. I occasionally had to use easy start to get it to start. That stuff is always best avoided unless it's really necessary though.
