I am new to this site, and have never owned a landrover and want a defender 90 pick up.

After some advice when I go to buy. Maybe even a help to inspect??

Feel free reply with suggestions to were I can go for help.

Thanks Jake

Hi Jakers,

welcome to the looneyzone,

May help if you tell us what style, fuel, budget usage, you are looking at.

Cheers

said I was new to this lol.
I'm looking for ideally a defender 110 high capacity. For work. Wich is landscaping/tree work/garden and site maintenance. But am trying to line up a viewing with a defender 90, 2.5 diesel pick up. Any ideas would be great.

On another note what ever defender I end up with regardless of being a work truck I will unleash it were it is at best in the bushes and up muddy hills!

Engine wise a 300tdi or Td5 is probably your best bet. depending on budget.

A 90 is pretty useless for carrying capacity. Once you start to load the back you find it is suddenly full.

Good luck.

Cheers

My budget is quite narrow, 4500 top price ideally may manage to stretch but a certain price is 4500.

Haven't seen many 300's for my budget and to be honest none within a respective distance to me. (Essex).

You mention the 90 is small, but I've checked out measurements and would work for the style off my work. Do you know if the tailgate on the 90 pick up opens with a downward action e.g ford ranger/navara/l200 style or opens as a normal style door?

Sorry for the brain picking!

Pick up is normally as std a tailgate that drops down. You can get a bolt on hard top to cover the rear area and these normally have a fold up mesh door to enclose the rear area. Used a lot by farmers.

If you have a hard top / Van style then it would be a side hinged rear door.

For your budget you may find an older vehicle that may well be fitted with a later engine,ie 300tdi. One thing is to go look at a few , check bulkhead / chassis / vehicle ID. Look at the vehicle history and MOT sites .

Cheers

Thanks for your advice. Have seen one for sale it's a 90 pickup 1989 2.4 4c . That's the advert heading what is the "4c".

I have already been made aware of what Essex boys call "flops" stolen defenders with ground off numbers and looking tampered with!!! Lol. Couldn't find anywhere online to find exactly were these numbers are on the engine/chassis.

1989 2.4 4C............should really be a 2.5 but that may just be a typo, the 4C means 4 cylinder.

Chassis number is stamped on front outside edge of chassis just between the bumper and the wheel. Engine number depends on engine type.

This shows where the VIN might be for , windscreen may not be there on earlier models.

That is perfect! Do you know of a thread for someone that would be up for viewing to help look over it for beer money?

Thanks

Try putting a post in the 90/110 defender section. Maybe someone local to you will respond and be of help.

Just do not ask if anyone has one for sale, as that is against the rools...LOL

Cheers

Haha will do, and yeah I did briefly run through the rules! Didn't want to get banned from the the word go lol

There is fcuk all wrong about a 90. Sounds like you have already done some homework so if the 90 fits - get one! Wtf would you but a 19mm spanner is a 18 fit!! Td5 seems a great machine to me - I have a puma that is also good but my mate bought a cheap puma and ended up with a recon engine from excel - that is still no good so also don't bother with them. There seems plenty on ebay at the moment - give me five mins and I will post an add I seen that I thought was a fair offer. Good look and welcome by the way. Please enter the ' anything goes 'section as soon as possible - then you will see who your dealing with!! Lol
