Land Rover Defender 110 5TD

Hey,

first post here and looking for some help and possible problems I have with my Land Rover defender.

I’ve recently started getting this problem when driving for long periods and going on freeways.

It drives 100% until I get a off sound In the engine like a clicking as well as rattling in the whole vehicle, following this I loose power. Almost seems like I’m overheating but my gauge doesn’t tell me so. I’ve checked all liquids and everything seems fine as well as no leaks.

It doesn’t produce smoke just the power loss and change in sound. After leaving the car to cool down it resets and I’m able to drive again until I run it for to long or travel a certain distance it kicks in again.

If I’ve blown or cracked a gasket would this not happen all the time ? not just when the engine is running hot?

I’ve tried troubleshooting this myself but getting to the end of my ability to find out what’s wrong. Really wanting to try everything before taking it in to spend money at the mechanic.

Would love any feedback and it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

When were filters changed? Fuel filter dirty and starving engine or possible the fuel pump on the Td5? I think they can make a noise.

Yes! This was my next step. I think I might have filled up with a bad batch from a service station I’d never usually go to just had a fuel voucher (worst Christmas present ever )

Planning on draining the fuel this afternoon and then replacing the filter and go From there. Hopefully this fixes the problem if not will look into the fuel pump.

Thankyou for your reply
