Hi! Im Simon, live in Glos area and have always wanted a Land Rover and have recently ended up with 2!! Due to the arrival of twin girls we did a very silly thing and bought an Audi A4 estate (sensible family car!) having purchased the buggy for them I proudly walked out and put it in the boot, well tried!! 
There was no way the Mrs was gonna be able to wrestle this contraption in each time on her own and where would the dogs go let alone the shopping! Smiley to myself I walked back in and said we need a bigger car! She said "well you have always wanted a Discovery!" (Result!!) We looked around and found a couple of nice ones but the money they were offering for the Audi made me cringe! I was gonna lose nearly £5k in less than 3 months!! After some thinking I said well lets keep the Audi and Ill look for an old one and try and get rid of my MK1 Golf Cabriolet (I am a Vdub nut too!) Anyway got a local garage who had a 1994 200 tdi, high mileage but all solid and there so did a straight swap, Nice! I love it!! Next day the Mrs was out shopping and called to say she had seen a TD5 for sale which she had test driven and loved it! They had offered a straight swap on the Audi so meant we would only lose £1500! I went to see it and she was right, it was lovely! 40k from new and absolutely showroom condition! We did the deal there and then and all happy! Even the dogs!! Now this means I can do what I like in mine as its not the family car and have already enjoyed the floods in Glos area! I am sure I will find your wealth of experience handy in the future!
