Hi, just thought i would say a Quick hello in here, i have owned various lands over the years (Disco 300tdi, Range rover P38 dhse and a 300tdi 110) and i have just purchased a 2002 Disco TD5 manual for towing a car trailer. At present i am using a D22 Navara which has been an excellent tow vehicle but now i am doing longer journeys and wanting to tow more weight i have brought another Disco (just need to get a my tacho transferred from the Nav).
Anyway Hello and hope to chat to you all soon
Best regards
Paul.

Welcome to LZ, Paul! :)

Best of luck with the Disco, as Neilly says, watch out for chassis rust. And hope it has a good clutch for towing, I prefer auto.

I am a regular visitor to KL, The big Sainsburys has the cheapest fuel for miles around! :)

Another few things that you will find is highly recommended.

Look at getting a stage 1 tune , it makes a world of difference to the Td5, makes it drive like you think it should have done from the factory.
Also, find a friend who has diagnostics to give it a once over.
Finally download the RAVE workshop manual, it will save you a lot of hassle if ever needed.

Cheers

I checked the chassis, and its solid, one of the main reasons i brought it, along with a meticulous service history and a massive pile of receipts.
Clutch was done 11000 miles ago so should be ok.
I have already replaced the injector loom, replaced the MAF and removed the EGR. and she already drives better (mainly down to the EGR delete)
I have just ordered a Nanocom to keep in the glove box for when the disco has a brainfart as i know it will at some point. and a remap is going to be done as soon as i have decided on which one to get.

A V8 would be nice but it would use too much fuel for the milage i do

Best regards

V8 doesnt actually do bad mileage on towing. Mine used to get 20 mpg with my cattle trailer on the back. I have never had a Td5, but doubt if it would get more than 25, towing. And you save several K on the purchase price.

I have done a run with the disco up to scotland and back with a defender on my trailer on the way up and a caterham on the way back and returned 29mpg average over the trip.
Best regards

That's really good going, especially on hilly ground like that. Most of my towing mileage was in Cornwall and Devon, hard to imagine worse terrain for towing. Hilly and twisty! :(

Welcome to the west coast of Norfolk from the East coast of Norfolk. I'll be heading through the hardwick roundabout in a couple of weeks for Scotland. Up past the Kelpies, which for some reason are a full page in today's eastern daily press!?.

Fuel up at Sainsburys when you pass the Hardwick. Cheapest fuel I can find round these parts.

Kelpies look good, not seen em in the flesh, but they are always featuring in the canal mags! :)

The Kelpies are impressive, as is the Falkirk wheel on the canal, it's only ten miles from there to much of my family.
Thanks for the advice but tescos Stalham are a penny cheaper. And it won't be worthwhile filling up so soon. If I'm heading for Manchester on the way I'll stop off under the The Tinsley viaduct at the Sainsbury there.
I use this site http://www.whatgas.com, before a long trip to check prices.

I will remember that about Stalham. But I rarely pass there, I am though KL all the time.
