I have a love/hate relationship with my freelander, I love it when it actually decides to start but each week it seems to find a new problem which I don't love !!Hi there, Tell us about your beast?
I have a love/hate relationship with my freelander, I love it when it actually decides to start but each week it seems to find a new problem which I don't love !! I'm now trying to decide to spend out or whether they are prone to constant problems and get rid?
Thank you for the welcome ☺ i never know whether it'll start or not, it doesn't matter whether what the weather/temperature is, I can sometimes start first turn then other times it just won't start, it fires up but then won't catch and dies. I can try up to 15 times and never know whether I'm going to get to work or get home after on time, It is also a bit lumpy when I stop in traffic. I took it to the first garage where I was told he had no idea but I could send the injectors away, the second garage charged me for a new battery and also mentioned injectors and the next person said about the glow plugs being changed!! Wondered if anyone knew why this may be? I had the fuel filter changed by the first garage!! Any ideas please ??hi and welcome to the asylum
what is it currently doing, is it just a starting problem, useto have a td4 myself
or could always sell it and buy a disco, lol![]()
Thank you for the welcome ☺ i never know whether it'll start or not, it doesn't matter whether what the weather/temperature is, I can sometimes start first turn then other times (even if I've just driven it) it just won't start, it fires up but then won't catch and dies. I can try up to 15 times and never know whether I'm going to get to work or get home after, I panic stopping for fuel in case I don't start again for ages! It is also a bit lumpy and bidders (my thighs wobble...) when I stop in traffic. Thanks for your suggestions, I bought it last June and it was juddery back then but started each time, I have to rely on garages but one was decent enough to send me on my way as said they wouldn't want to work on it as know it's difficult to find faults without working their way through! I then took it to a man on his own 'specialist that charged me 3 hours work, wrote some figures on the engine and said he didn't know! I have tried three different garages but have a friend who knows a mechanic that is willing to take a look....if I pass on your suggestions it may be of value. I haven't had it serviced as I've been spending out on repairs, battery and trying to get this sorted but believe it was in the January before I bought it last year! Are these problematic as since buying it, everyone seems to want to tell me what a mistake I've madehiya ,
like any motor , a good service and inspection is the key , hope that doesn't sound rude
a few things may need doing and best to check the following
1) clean out the maf sensor, these block up
2) replace the crankcase breather with a modified bmw type
3 ) blank off the egr valve, these can cause bad tickover
4) air filter is nice and clean
have u had the td4 long, can someone do the work for u or are u relying on a garage
no point for a garage to keep guessing or throwing parts at it till it's fixed , as after all ur paying them for there expertise ,
get a diagnostic reader plugged in , that will at least be able to tell u any fault codes that have come up
do u know when it was last serviced
hope that helps a little and shame ur not closer as i would have looked at it for u foc , all about helping other land rover owners as i can't stand garages trying to rip people off
Sorry, a Freelander td4 (sport) I think that's right!!It depends on what machine you ride as you still havent said (Face palm)

Thank you for your advice and time. I'll let you know how it goesur very welcome
i owned a td4 for 7 x years , started on the button and never broke down
like many of us here we all the service and repair work ourselves
that's great that u have a mechanic that can look through it for u
if u pop over into the freelander section there are plenty of members there , who will help
if ur mechanic is unsure get him to also join here and can run through the faults and what he's tested etc
hope that at least gives u a direction to go in and get it resolved
as it's been juddery for a while get him to
1) blank off the egr which should smooth the tickover as a start and a service
plse let us know how u get on and plenty here to help with any questions u may have
