Hello all, my good lady recently took the plunge to fulfil her dream to own a defender - of which I of course approve!
We looked at a few but fell in love with a 1998 defender 90 300tdi with 98k on the clock and well looked after... and a 3 month warranty.
Have to say, we've been pleasantly surprised - we decided to take it on its first holiday, heading off for a week and a bit in the Lake District (travelling from the Cotswolds). Was a pleasure to drive, sat happily at 70 on the motorway all the way up, and came into its own up hill and down dale in the lakes, especially on the long rough tracks up to our holiday cottage. Very comfortable to drive, and approx 35mpg over around 900 miles.
Changed spare tyre once up there, once I'd figured out the jack - apparently just some dirt in the wheel had worn through the inner tube.
Before the holiday, I managed to change all the barrel locks so we could just have one key rather than all three, and my next play time will be to change all oil and filters I think - looks pretty black. Also looking into waxoyl/dinitrol (not going to start a debate on that one
)
