Hi everyone,
My names Chris and I'm new to landrovers/4x4s. Been a hot hatch enthusiast for the last 13 years. I've just moved down to Wiltshire from London and saw loads of cool offroaders driving about so decided I'd have a go. I had a smart brabus with a broken gearbox that wasn't suitable for down here so I swapped it for a 2002 td4 Freelander. I have since fitted a cheap set of AT tyres (195-80-15) on the original wheels.. It had a grinding/rubbing noise when i got it home from the Midlands and after reading a few threads on here assumed it was something to do with the VCU. It also had oil dripping from underneath, I jacked up removed the undertray ( was riveted on Is that normal?) and found the gearbox drain plug was only in by a thread!!! Cleaned up tightened plug, topped up with mtf oil and refitted undertray with screws.. Went out for a quick drive no more rubbing/grinding. Turns out a poor fitted splash guard was rubbing :). I have since changed front disks and pads as the old ones were shocking!! So far my Freelander seems easy to work on! I only have a few halfords tool sets, a Haynes manual and very limited mechanical knowledge but all seems accessible and straight forward. I have just ordered a service kit what I'll tackle over the weekend (weather permitting). I have found a couple of byways where I live in Holt but they are really just bumpy roads, I would like to get out and get a bit muddy but also not smash it to pieces. I don't know anyone down here so if anyone lives close and fancy letting me tag on your days out would be very much appreciated. Sorry if I've rambled on, I've never joined a forum before either!
Thanks for letting me join anyway, and look forward to getting stuck in with my Land Rover project :)

Hi and welcome!

I got some friends who live in Holt. The main road through the village is like a green lane with its ruts and potholes!

Welcome to the forum

Rave disk Bible link in my signature below to help yer fix yer hippo.

Plastic section of sump guard is pop riveted ont. To get the guard oft yer normally undo the bolts holding the metal frame. Frame and plastic come oft as one piece.

At least I've got some snow to go and play in this morning!

Haha yea I've got to find something more challenging then the highstreet :)

Oh god first rookie mistake already! I'll take a look at the guide on your profile!

Cheers for the welcome, I'm sure I'll be needing all your advice and knowledge in the near future :)

Enjoy the snow! If you're lucky enough to have any.
