Hi Just joined the Zone and need some help and advice. I have a Discovery2
3.9 LPG conversion 2002. I have just tried to change the front Pads on my Discovery got the old ones out OK made the mistake of pushing one piston back at a time on calliper on drivers side before I saw what was happening other one came out and some brake fluid seeped out the piston pushed back OK and I got the new pads in when I checked the brakes they are spongy on first pump then OK then you leave for a few seconds and they are soft again. Have I got air in the system have I ruined the seal any advice on how to bleed system is it something a novice can do seeing as I cocked up a simple brake pad change any advice appreciated Cheers John

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like air in the system, you'll need to bleed that calliper. It will take two people so try to get someone who's done it before!

Basically you put your foot down on the brake peddle, loosen the bleed nipple and tighten it back up, then release the peddle. Repeat that a few times and it should bleed up.

Or get an eezibleed and do away with all the faffing about..

Thanks Daz I will give it a go in the morning I have someone to help me will the fluid it leaked just be because i didn't press the two pistons together will it continue to leak or do I need to do anything else with the rubber seal. thanks again John

It depends how much crap it had to scrape over before it popped out, the seal should be OK and you will know as soon as it's bled up, worth keeping an eye on it for a wile though.

If you think you might need to bleed the brakes in future it would be worth taking the advice above and getting a bleeding kit.

Hi Daz, I changed the other side with no problems then bled the offside caliber. I did it 3 times, on the first one air came out the other 2 were OK and the brakes worked great. I will keep an eye on the levels and seals but all appears well thanks for your advice i may well invest in a bleed kit cheers again John
