Hello All! New to these parts...

Hi there fellow owners and enthusiasts! I have owned my 110 for a decade but never signed up before now as I tend to not be a 'joiner' to my detriment .

My Defender (an '04 110 2.5TDi) has been through a couple of restorations in the last years, first was a clean up 'patina' job with a desire to do the full job my restorer rolls out as standard. Then I bit the bullet through COVID and had it restored more completely. I am about to put it up for sale as I would like a 90 next. Any advice on the best place to do that bearing in mind the Defender is no longer standard and has a significantly higher value than stock year etc?

Just my thoughts but why not live with the 110 after it’s rebuild? You know it and it owes you a fair bit I’ll bet.

As for selling, take a look on eBay for something similar for a rough guide. The LRO classifieds were always good, although with the demise of LRO, that’s no longer such an option. Other LR publications might help similarly. Once you have an idea on price, places like the for sale section on forums and FB marketplace will help get exposure.

Sure thoughts are welcome, I have lived with it through thick and thin but life often dictates a course correction so the time has come. I've been to all corners of the Island in Chief and now it's in tiptop shape it is time to retrieve some of what he owes! Is ebay the right place to go really? There's a relatively high guarantee insurance value (compared to stock) attached and i am looking for those that 'know' rather than the car crowd if it makes sense.

EBay can be useful to guage a price. There are lots of variants on there so you may find something similar to yours in spec. You don’t have to sell there. But for price research, it’s free.

You never really get back what you've spent on it.
The market value is the market value, adding bits, restoring seatboxes, floor pans, tubs, axles, brakes etc doesn't increase the sale price.
A galvy chassis and bulkhead will but you won't get the full cost of the rebuild, the cost of all those extra bits, the brake lines, the wiring loom, the spring retainer plates, the new bushes on the radius arms ... all those bits that were 'needed' to make the car usable.
It's like fitting new tyres, you don't get £160 a corner extra, you just don't get the prospective buyer hassling your for £400 off cos the tyres need replacing.

I'd never expect to get a return on stock mechanicals, but as you say I would on the Galvy Chassis, the bulkhead, the complete interior and the complete exterior panel replacement. As a package including the peripherals like tyres/wheels etc it does have a much better than stock gaurenteed insurer value...but again it is what someone will pay for it as we know!
