Headlights are intermittently not coming on. I am pretty sure its the relay as all else appears to be ok. Its a 89 plate. Relay is not in the fuse box. Is it behind the dash dials?

Should have mentioned that the side lights, and main beam are working fine.

IIRC, the relay is behind the dash. The most common fault with Defender headlights though is the switch rather than the relay.

Cheers martin. Could be that as it doesn't feel just right.

When your sidelights are on does your headlights light aswell at 60% if so jus bypass the relay with 1 wire ?

No mate, headlights not coming on at all. Well they weren't last night, but are working fine today.

Is there a relay or are they wired direct through the switch?

There is one on mine. Found it tonight behind the dash dials. Its clicking when i turn the lights on. I will have to wait and see if its still clicking next time the lights don't work. If it is, then its looking like the switch as Martin said. Not the end of the world if it is...£25 for OEM Lucas part, or £10 for aftermarket off flea bay.
